Source: After a long surgery, which may include hip or joint replacement, the road to recovery can be tedious, but it does not mean you must do it alone. Outpatient and physical therapy services can be of benefit, however, you may wish to consider an impatient facility that offers all the conveniences and stay, so you can properly heal with all the care and attention you need.
Recovery from a hip or knee replacement can be very overwhelming for a patient, especially when during the golden years. Having a nurse’s assistant to stay in one’s home can cost thousands of dollars, even while the patient still needs to leave their home for physical therapy and doctor’s visits. Rehabilitation centers that are a part of larger facilities that also offer assisted living, nursing home, and memory care units, provide many options for the need of continuity of care for patients in their senior years.
Seniors that have undergone the rehab process and decide they’d rather take residency at an assisted living community because they are uncomfortable residing alone have the option to transfer themselves down the hall when their rehabilitation is complete. This allows for seniors to maintain a desired quality of life, without having to deal with the stress of being on their own.
Rehabilitation is not just for seniors. Although the statistic of the vast majority of patients who utilize rehab care are seniors, these centers are open to many age groups that need more demanding care for their recovery of an injury or surgery.
Rehab centers allow for a patient to receive more intensive recovery and physical therapy on site, while having their recovery monitored around the clock by a qualified staff of nurses and aids; allowing you to schedule your steps to recovery and rest periods throughout the day, without having to stress over travel time and transportation arrangements. Inpatient rehab centers allow for patients to receive one-on–one care, unlike a traditional physical therapy outpatient unit, which offers care and training in a group setting. Inpatient rehabilitation facilities require a recovering patient to participate in several therapy disciplines. While outpatient facilities do not require this regiment, this outpatient recovery can take longer than a patient desires. An inpatient program also allows for a patient to get daily reports of their progress, where outpatient status may only yield a weekly or monthly report.
Within the inpatient rehab center, all the patient’s daily needs are met; meaning a patient that is trying to recover does not have to focus on the stresses of daily chores, including: cooking, cleaning, or laundry; the patient’s core focus is wellness. As an outpatient beyond the rehab facility, a recovering patient still must handle negotiating the hazards of a home environment if they do not have an assistant or family member at home to help them during recovery time.
